UV Ray Awareness Month


Tampa, FL  (April 26, 2012) – Some may remember the lyrics to the 1980s song “The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades.”  But many are not aware of how true the title actually is. In fact, ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause immediate as well as lasting damage. Prevent Blindness Florida has declared May “UV Awareness Month” to help educate the public on the dangers of UV and how to protect the eyes.  read more

Glaucoma Awareness

Vision Loss from the "Sneak Thief of Sight" Can Be Diminished with
Early Diagnosis and Treatment

Today, more than 2.2 million age 40 and older have open angle glaucoma, the most common form of glaucoma. At least half don't even know they have it. Glaucoma is a leading cause of blindness in the world, second only to cataracts, and the leading cause of blindness in African-Americans. Seeing Lakeland Vision Screening Program

Seeing Lakeland  Vision Screening Program provides free vision screening over a 12 month period to children and adults utilizing health services at Lakeland's clinic of the Polk County Health Department. PBF will also screen with Family Fundamentals, Girls Inc of Lakeland and Boys & Girls Club of Lakeland.
